Optegra strategic advisor

Sarah Maling has joined eye hospital group Optegra UK as strategic advisor.

A consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, Maling (pictured) brings significant experience in ophthalmic education and training. She is the outgoing chair of training (ophthalmology) for the UK and has held a number of senior roles at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, including chair of recruitment. She was also involved in the development of national treatment pathways, including the high-volume cataract surgery model.

At Optegra, she will advise on clinical development and education, including expanding junior doctor training in the independent sector.

Optegra managing direcector Mat Pickering said her expertise in training and treatment pathway development would support its ongoing growth.

‘We are continually raising the bar on clinical outcomes while expanding our offering to treat NHS glaucoma patients and investing in training and development,’ he said. ‘Sarah is a perfect fit for Optegra.’

Maling added: ‘Optegra established their pathways and outcomes before taking on NHS-funded work, and when they did, they reviewed and improved the process without compromising care. I’m compelled to help any business that puts patients first and strives to develop excellence in care for all.’
