The MPS Foundation has opened applications for its 2025 grant programme, inviting submissions from researchers in private health and dental care settings. The initiative aims to support projects focused on patient safety and the wellbeing of healthcare professionals.
Launched in 2022 by the Medical Protection Society (MPS), the MPS Foundation has funded more than 50 medical and dental research projects worldwide. UK-based studies supported so far include research into managing work-related risks to health and wellbeing for medical and dental professionals in private practice.
Applications are open to both MPS members and non-members, with funding available for research conducted in countries where MPS operates. These include the UK, Australia, the Caribbean and Bermuda, Hong Kong, Ireland, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, and South Africa. Grants will range from £5,000 to £200,000, depending on the scale and focus of the research.
Projects must align with at least one of the MPS Foundation’s four strategic priorities. These include research into how human factors influence patient safety, outcomes, and risk, as well as studies on the personal and professional wellbeing of healthcare professionals and teams. The foundation is also seeking proposals examining the impact of digital integration and technology on patient safety, outcomes, and risk, alongside evaluations of the effectiveness of teaching and learning innovations.
MPS Foundation chair Professor Gozie Offiah said: ‘The MPS Foundation wants to fund research that is original, evidence-based, and focused on applied research. We particularly welcome proposals whose outcomes can be applied in the private sector.’
Expressions of interest must be submitted by Friday 2 May 2025 via the MPS Foundation’s online grant portal. The foundation will also host a series of online Q&A clinics to guide applicants through the process.
